Randy's BlogApril 10 KidsWB is no moreAs of April 11, 2009, CW4Kids will drop Will & Dewitt from their lineup. This is the last remnant of KidsWB content. In February, they dropped the other KidsWB content they were carrying, The Spectacular Spiderman. The transition is complete. January 04 4Kids on Fox is no moreAs of January 3, 2009, Fox affiliates will no longer air 4Kids saturday morning cartoons. In fact, they won't be airing any saturday morning cartoons. Fox and 4Kids Entertainment agreed to terminate their contract early. When I turned to my local Fox affiliate to watch Saturday morning cartoons, yesterday morning, I was greated with a five hour block of infomercials. The plan on Fox's part is to maintain control of 2 hours of saturday morning for their Weekend Marketplace. So, the local affiliates keep 3 hours of saturday morning for their own programming (probably infomercials) and Fox keeps 2 hours for their own informercials.
For those keeping track, Fox Kids started as a four hour saturday morning block in 1990. This block had some of my favorites: Power Rangers (all series), Batman: The Animated Series, The Tick, Dark Water, X-Men, Big Bad Bettleborgs, Big Guy and Rusty the Robot. In 2002, it was rebranded as FoxBox. Then in 2005, it was rebranded again as 4Kids TV. As of yesterday, Fox is out of the Saturday morning cartoon business.
It's a pretty big blow to Saturday morning cartoons. First KidsWB gets dropped by the CW, now Fox is dropping 4Kids. My local ABC affiliate doesn't carry the Power Rangers and my local CBS (Kewlopolis) and NBC (qubo) affiliates are really much more interested in carrying anything other than Saturday morning cartoons on Saturday morning. Thankfully my local CW affiliate carries the full five hours of CW4Kids on Saturday morning.
The one piece of good news is that the new series Kaman Rider: Dragon Knight that started yesterday really reminds me of Power Rangers in a good way. The other series that started yesterday Huntik: Secrets & Seekers looked like all of the other dueling card game anime shows (in a bad way). September 14 qubo announces new seasonThe new season for qubo starts October 4, 2008
The new lineup includes:
No mention of:
September 07 Saturday Morning Cartoons - September 13, 2008
This is the start of the new season for, at least, Kewlopolis, 4Kids and CW4Kids. Although there is no change in the lineup and no new episodes for Kewlopolis so I'm not exactly sure why they refer to it as the start of a new season. Changes: 4Kids dropped Best of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Dinosaur King CW4Kids For some reason, the episode information for Kewlopolis hasn't been released yet. I'll update this when I get the information. CW4Kids will have "Preview Show"It used to be that the Friday night before the new fall season of saturday morning cartoons, each of the major 3 networks (ABC, CBS, NBC) would, occasionally, have a "Preview Show" with a host that would "preview" all of the new shows that you could watch the next morning. I used to look forward to this. But nobody has done this for a very long time. This Friday, The CW is reviving the tradition with a "preview show" of their CW4Kids lineup. Look for it Friday afternoon. CW4Kids announces new lineupDuring last Saturday's cartoons, they announced their new lineup. It included
No mention of Magi-Nation or Tom & Jerry Tales. Magi-Nation is scheduled for the start of the new season (next Saturday) but I assume this means it won't be on for long. Old Kids WB cartoons being held over for the new season include Will & DeWitt, returning Skunk fu! and my favorite The Spectacular Spider-Man. Chaotic (moved from 4Kids) will be reruns of the previous season September 04 What's New?Many of the Saturday Morning Cartoons are shows that were originally aired either overseas (Japan) or on cable TV and the repackaged for broadcast in the US. When it's the first time that a show is broadcast (over the air) in the US, I will label it as "NEW".
Examples,
Power Rangers: Jungle Fury are first shown on Toon Disney on cable, then they are later shown on ABC Kids over the air.
any of the anime are usually first shown in Japan and then later repackaged for the U.S. and shown a year or years later. |
